Health Essentials has a hospice volunteer program for those who want to make a positive difference in the lives of others. The commitment to help can last anywhere from weeks to months, usually involving visits during daytime hours. The focus is on relieving the family and providing comfort, support, and companionship for the patient wherever they may reside.
If you are searching for a valuable, heartfelt, and rewarding role, and are 16 years old and above, we welcome you to become a Health Essentials volunteer. You are a vital part of our team and we could not provide the quality care and service our patient's need without you.
The following are examples of the many ways in which volunteers can participate with Health Essentials hospice program:
Provide administrative support in the hospice office
Visiting or sitting with patients
Music therapy (play soothing music on piano or guitar)
Read, play games, or work on arts and craft projects with patients
Compile a tribute video with the patient to present as gift to the family
Creating special gifts for patients and families such as holiday decorations
The Health Essentials training program includes instruction in:
Health Essentials hospice philosophy
Goals and service
Patient and family rights
Pain and symptom management
Concepts of grief, death, and dying
If you are interested in any of the above volunteer opportunities, please contact a Volunteer Coordinator at the Health Essentials office nearest you.
